Champions builddifferent

A world championship together in 1999. A quarter century of throttles, checkered flags and boat building. Then a clean sheet of paper.

Shared History

It started with Motion

In 1999, Scott Grants and Edwin Scheer raced together in the Super Cat Lite classes, compiling an impressive string of victories — including a Team Motion entry that earned a world championship in Key West that year. Edwin owned the Motion catamaran company; Scott was its leading dealer. They’ve been friends ever since, and lifelong high-performance boat owners between every chapter.

Platinum Powerboats is that friendship, weaponized: two racers who decided the market’s best 42-foot catamaran didn’t exist yet — so they spent three years building it.

Edwin Scheer

Co-founder & Co-owner · North Miami, Florida

Super Cat Lite champion — Key West world title, Team Motion, 1999 Former owner, Motion catamarans Active Factory-class offshore racer

Edwin Scheer has spent his life at the sharp end of offshore performance. A veteran champion of the Super Cat Lite era, he went from winning races in Motion catamarans to owning the company that built them — a rare combination of driver instinct and manufacturer discipline.

He never stopped competing. Edwin still races in the Factory class today; in 2023 he campaigned a 38-foot Doug Wright 450R Factory Stock catamaran with veteran racer Lee Murray that ran 117 mph in its very first test session.

At Platinum, Edwin’s obsession is the ride: a catamaran that stays flat, planted and predictable at speeds most boats never see. It’s a philosophy he can summarize in one sentence:

“Stability and safety get you a lot farther than fast and flighty.”

Super Cat Lite champion — string of victories, 1999 Former leading Motion dealer Production & program leader, Platinum

Scott Grants raced beside Edwin through the Super Cat Lite years and moved as much high-performance hardware as anyone in the sport as Motion’s leading dealer. He knows what owners actually live with — the rigging, the service, the resale, the details that separate a great boat from a great brochure.

At Platinum, Scott drives the program: recruiting what he calls “rock stars” for the production floor — including a general manager who ran MTI’s lamination team for 16 years — capping production at twelve boats a year, and leading the company’s move into its 22,000-square-foot Port Orange, Florida production headquarters.

He’s also the reason Platinum shows up for its community, from the 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run in his home waters of Upstate New York to sponsoring the Binks Memorial Fun Run for addiction awareness.

“It’s not just about the boats. Last year, my eight-year-old daughter Ainsley raised $1,600 by collecting aluminum cans… How do you not appreciate a moment like that?”
