Built in the U.S.A.

Built from scratch. Engineered to fly.

The Platinum 428 is a 42-foot, all-carbon-fiber catamaran designed from a clean sheet by champion offshore racers, refined with aerospace science, powered by twin Mercury Racing 500R outboards, documented at 131 mph on GPS — and built, start to finish, in the United States.

The Founder Story

Two champions.
One clean sheet.

Scott Grants and Edwin Scheer raced together in 1999 in the Super Cat Lite classes, compiling a string of victories that included a world championship in Key West with Team Motion. Twenty-five years later, they came back to do something harder: build the boat they always wanted to exist.

“We started with a clean sheet … to build the best quality boat on the market.”

Scott Grants — Co-founder, Platinum Powerboats

Their 17-minute documentary, Built From Scratch, follows the whole journey — from CAD file to 120-plus-mph carbon-fiber catamaran.

Built in the USA — no exceptions

Quality over savings.
Every single hull.

Some builders move construction overseas because it costs less. We build in the United States because it builds a better boat. Every Platinum catamaran is laminated, rigged and finished by our own American team, under our own roof — never shipped out, never outsourced.

The most critical hours of a boat’s life happen in the mold. If nobody is standing over the layup while the carbon cures, no amount of finish work can fix what’s underneath. At Platinum, the racers whose name is on the side of the boat supervise every ply, every cure and every rig — from the first sheet of carbon to sea trial.

The Lineup

Choose your Platinum

No hype. Just GPS.

Watch it pull to 131

Plenty of builders talk numbers. We film ours. This onboard clip follows the Garmin GPS speedometer as a 428 walks from 71 to 131 miles per hour — flat, level and composed the whole way.

“Stability and safety get you a lot farther than fast and flighty.”

Edwin Scheer — Co-founder, Platinum Powerboats

In its first full review, Speed on the Water crossed steep two- to three-foot wakes at 110 mph and carved hard 180-degree turns at high speed — and called the 428 “a catamaran of substance.”

Why it’s different

Science you can feel at 120

Three years of development with naval architects, aerodynamic specialists and carbon-fiber chemists — before the first hull ever touched water.

Heritage

Racing isn’t our marketing.
It’s our résumé.

Before Platinum, there was Motion — Edwin Scheer owned the catamaran company, and Scott Grants was its leading dealer. Together they raced Super Cat Lite in 1999, stacking wins and a Key West world championship. Edwin still competes in Factory-class offshore racing today.

That heritage is why the 428 exists: a boat built by people who have spent decades holding throttles at three-digit speeds — and who know exactly what keeps a crew safe there.
